The Face Paint Versus Facemask Hunting Debate

When deer or turkey hunting, the face must be covered up, so which do you prefer to use, a facemask or some face paint? This is the facemask versus face paint discussion, which is better for hunting?

Whether you are deer hunting or turkey hunting, your face will stand out and cause unsuccessful hunts. Camouflaged gear, pants, jacket, hat, and gloves do not work if your face is still left uncovered. So when it comes to covering your face which product is more desired facemask or face paint? Which is better overall for the hunter? With this discussion you have to dive into the pros and cons of both facemasks and face paints.

Facemask

Pros

  • Provides protection and warmth in the cold
  • Is easy to take on and off
  • Matches your camo clothing perfectly
  • Can be scent free

Cons

  • Need multiple facemasks for hunting out of blinds or on the ground or tree stand
  • Covers ears, mouth, and nose, which might be important during the hunt
  • Needs to be removed most likely in the moment of harvest, especially when shooting a bow (something else that can go wrong in the moments that count)

Normal (oil based) Face Paint

Pros

  • One purchase buys nearly every color in a group of tubes, a compact, or a stick you need for the outdoors
  • Can be worked into any pattern needed for blind hunting, ground hunting, or tree stand hunting·

Cons

  • Is oil based, so it’s hard to take off and can get messy
  • Gets stuck in pores
  • Is not scent free
  • Does not provide protection or warmth for hunting in the cold

Natural Face Paint: Carbomask

Pros

  • One purchase buys nearly every color in a group of tubes you need for the outdoors
  • Can be worked into any pattern needed for blind hunting, ground hunting, or tree stand hunting
  • Is scent free
  • Does not get stuck in pores
  • Is easy to put on and take off

Cons

  • Does not provide protection or warmth for hunting in the cold

So which is better, facemasks or face paint, for deer and turkey hunting?

For me, the camo face paint from Carbomask is the best choice to cover the face when deer and turkey hunting. It’s all about your preferences however. If you don’t mind wearing a facemask and having it over your ears then that is the obvious choice, but if you are a face paint hunter, who is tired of wearing oil based paint, then Carbomask is the best option.
