This week join The Buck Advisors’ Weston Schrank as he takes you through a card pull on a 70 acre property and two hunts that shows current deer movement. This card pull and videos on it might show you where to place yourself and your stand next week.

It’s currently October 21st were on a 70 acre property checking cards from our trail cameras to see what deer movement is looking like. Lately we have been experiencing an October shift or lull as some call it, either way definitely a spell of bad luck not seeing a lot of movement even with the cold front we had the past weekend. Even when we didn’t hunt this property, two hunts from this weekend on other properties relate to what we have been seeing all across the board.

After checking the cards on the 70 acre property we are definitely seeing an increase in deer movement, but the movement seems to be right in line with those hunts you just saw a lot of young bucks and does tearing up every mock scrape we have as well as the acorns, and beans, and all during daylight hours. Out of the five cards on the property we didn’t have a single nocturnal picture of a deer. To me this pull and the hunts reinforced my confidence that we should stay out of the woods and wait for this lull or shift to pass over. Wait for all the remaining crops to be cut and wait for those mature bucks to define their true fall home range this year, and wait for testosterone levels to rise even more getting to the pre-rut soon.  We are going to keep the pressure of the properties and wait about a week, week and a half before we start hunting again. During that time movement should break loose into the exciting periods of the pre rut where tactics like rattling or decoying work well. So Next week we will be giving you another update on movement and where we plan to focus our hunting efforts across several different states.
